Neuqua Valley Cross Country
Team Expectations 1. Men
are expected to meet at the track at 2:45 p.m. sharp! Anyone not able to get dressed and get out
to practice on time does not keep our team as a priority. The first and second time you will be
warned. The third time you will sit
out for one meet. The fourth time you
will be dismissed from the squad. 2. Roll
will be taken by me or an assistant coach each day. You must check out with me or another
assistant coach by shaking our hand before you leave. 3. We
take great pride in a personal focus at our practices. Anyone is welcome to join us at
anytime. When a new person enters our
practice area, you are expected to greet them with a handshake and introduce
yourself by stating your first and last name. 4. If
you report to practice late, submit a note from the teacher. Academics come first, however you are
expected to meet with the teacher during your option time or before school if
possible. You should notify a coach
that you will be meeting with a teacher before your meeting. 5. Once
school starts, Juniors and Seniors will meet in the a.m. for a run at 6:00
a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Sophomores will meet on Mondays and Fridays. Attendance will be taken on Mondays and
Fridays. Upperclassmen out for the
team the first time and freshmen are not expected to attend a.m. sessions but
are encouraged to attend at least once for the experience. 6. The
only legitimate excuse from practice is absence from school. An unexcused absence results from being in
school but not at practice or not attending a Saturday practice without prior
notice given to the coach. Athletes missing a Saturday practice due to
a sudden sickness will not run in the next meet (in most situations) even if
the parent excuses the athlete. The
first unexcused absence results in a warning.
The second unexcused absence results in sitting out a scheduled meet.
The third unexcused absence results in dismissal from the squad. There
is no excuse for not letting me or another coach know your whereabouts if you
plan on missing practice and are in school. If
you cannot find me in C206, then leave me a note. If you are at the freshman building, then
one of your parents should send me an e-mail.
Telling a teammate to tell a coach that you will be absent is not
acceptable. 7. After school detentions, p.m. schools,
Saturday schools, etc. count as unexcused absences. In other words, if you get three
after-school detentions
during the season you are off the team.
If the detention is short, you are expected to get dressed
and attend practice. 8. You
are allowed two excused absences during the season due to dental appointments
and other unavoidable circumstances.
These appointments will only be excused if I know of them in advance. Missing
practice for a dental appointment or other prearranged appointment without
letting me know in advance is deemed an unexcused absence. If more than two of these appointments are
expected during the season, your parents need to contact me. 9. You
must be academically eligible for any sport.
Eligibility is checked every week, and is based on your record in
class from the beginning of the semester.
You must be passing five classes to be eligible. 10. All athletes are required to read and sign
the school eligibility requirements. It is important for athletes to know these
expectations. Any athlete that breaks our athletic
code will receive the appropriate consequences. Please note that attendance at a party
with alcohol or other drugs is a violation even if you do
not take the illegal substances yourself!
11. Athletes
will not be allowed to compete in intramurals or open gyms for other
sports during the season. This is a Neuqua Valley High School rule agreed
upon by all coaches. |
